Transferring Trap Billing to an Organization
Move an individual trap's subscription onto your organization's billing so the organization's payment method is charged going forward.
If a trap you own is billed to you individually, you can move its subscription onto your organization's billing. After the transfer, the organization's payment method is charged for that trap going forward, and the trap appears on the organization's invoice alongside your other organization traps.
Adding a trap to an organization does not move its billing on its own — transferring billing is a separate, deliberate step you take from the trap's Billing tab.
Before You Start
You can transfer a trap's billing to an organization only when all of the following are true:
- You own the trap. Only the trap owner can transfer its billing.
- You are the organization's primary owner. Organization billing is handled by a single payer — the organization's primary owner. If someone else is the primary owner, they'll need to make the transfer (or transfer ownership to you first).
- The trap is already in the organization. Add it to the organization first (from the Organizations area); adding it does not move billing by itself.
- The trap has an active individual subscription. Its plan must be Active or in a free Trial, and not already billed to an organization.
If any of these isn't met, the transfer option won't appear for that trap.
How to Transfer
- Sign in at app.ocutrap.com.
- Open the trap and go to its Billing tab.
- Find Transfer billing to an organization and choose the organization to move the trap's billing to.
- Review the confirmation — it explains exactly what will change — then continue to the secure Stripe checkout.
- Confirm the organization's payment method and complete checkout. If the organization doesn't have a payment method on file yet, Stripe collects one here.
There's no free trial on a transfer — the trap is already subscribed, so its billing simply moves to the organization. If you close the checkout window without finishing, nothing changes and the trap stays on its individual subscription.
What Changes After the Transfer
- The organization pays going forward. The organization's payment method is charged for the trap from now on, and the trap is included on the organization's invoice.
- Your individual subscription is canceled. The trap's old individual subscription ends right away, and any unused paid time is returned to you as a prorated credit on your personal billing account.
- Your billing interval stays the same — Monthly stays Monthly and Annual stays Annual — unless the organization is on a different billing cycle, in which case the organization's cycle applies.
- Organization discounts apply automatically, if your organization has one.
Moving Billing Back
If the trap is later removed from the organization, its organization billing is canceled and the trap becomes inactive. To keep it running, start an individual subscription again from the trap's Billing tab — see Update Individual Trap Subscriptions.
