Removing a trap permanently deletes the trap and all of its data from your account. Review this page before proceeding.

Warning: This action is permanent and cannot be undone. Removing a trap deletes its images, activity history, and vitals history. Anyone the trap was shared with also loses access.

Before you start

  • Only the trap's owner can remove it. Managers and users the trap is shared with do not see the option.
  • The trap's subscription must be canceled first. The app will not remove a trap that still has an active subscription. Cancel it from the trap's Trap billing page: select Billing in the sidebar, find the trap under Per-trap status, select Manage, then Manage subscription to cancel in the Stripe portal. See managing-your-subscription.md. Note that a canceled subscription stays active until the end of the current billing period, so the trap can be removed once the period ends and the trap shows Canceled. If an organization pays for the trap, its primary owner uses Stop organization billing on the trap's Billing page first. Organization billing then ends at the end of the paid period. See Organizations and billing.
  • You can remove a trap on web or mobile. Both have a Remove trap button in the trap's Danger zone.

Steps (web)

  1. Open the trap: sign in at base.ocutrap.com and select the trap you want to remove.
  2. Go to the Settings tab on the trap's page.
  3. Scroll to the Danger zone section at the bottom of Settings.
  4. Click "Remove trap." If the button is disabled, the trap still has an active subscription. Cancel it from the trap's Trap billing page first.
  5. Confirm. A dialog named after the trap summarizes what will be deleted. Click Remove trap to permanently delete the trap, or Keep trap to cancel. You'll be returned to your trap list.

Steps (mobile)

  1. Open the trap and tap the Settings tab.
  2. Tap Trap settings.
  3. Scroll to the Danger zone and tap Remove trap. If the button is disabled, the trap still has an active subscription.
  4. A prompt named after the trap, for example "Remove Barn trap?", asks you to confirm. Tap Remove trap, or Keep trap to cancel.

What happens when you remove a trap

  • The trap disappears from your account immediately. Its photos and history are removed in the background within minutes.
  • The trap and all of its data, including images, activity history, and vitals history, are permanently deleted from your account.
  • Sharing access is removed for everyone the trap was shared with.
  • The physical trap itself is unaffected. It can be added to another OcuTrap account later. If you're handing it to a new owner, follow selling-or-transferring-a-trap.md.
